For Chief Justice Bayda, the road to the helm of one of the most respected Courts of Appeal. in Canada began in Alvena, SK. After graduation, he provided leadership and service in community organizations and in the legal profession as president of the Regina Bar Association, chairman of the Civil Justice Section of the provincial branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and as a bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan. He was appointed to the Court of Queens Bench in 1972 and to the Court of Appeal in 1974. In 1981, he became Chief Justice of Saskatchewan. In liberally oriented judgments lauded for their scholarship, sensitivity, and lucidity, Chief Justice Bayda has earned himself an enduring place among the nations pre eminent jurists.
