Considered one of the fathers of the Canadian system of Medicare, Emmett Hall was also one of Saskatchewans preeminent trial lawyers. He became Chief Justice of the Court of Queens Bench for Saskatchewan, and later Chief Justice for the province in 1961. Eventually serving on the Supreme Court of Canada until his retirement, Dr. Hall chaired a royal commission on the national health system that recommended the nationwide adoption of Saskatchewans model of public health insurance. His recommendations led to the establishment of Canadas national medicare system.
