Henry Thode was born on a farm near Dundurn, Saskatchewan, but his lifes work has become known around the world. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the U of S in 1930, a Masters degree two years later, and then went on to Columbia University for doctoral studies. A noted chemist, he taught at Columbia before moving to Hamilton and McMaster University where he ultimately rose to the presidency in 1961. He is perhaps best known as being the only Canadian scientist ever to receive and study specimens of the moon brought back to earth by Apollo 17 astronauts.
