Dr. Thompsons professional career has been devoted to human genetics and its
relevance to childhood diseases, particularly muscular dystrophy. With her
late husband Dr. James Thompson, she co-authored Genetics in Medicine, a textbook
now in its sixth edition. She is a founding member of the Genetics Society
of Canada, the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists, and the American Society
of Human Genetics. She is also an Honorary Fellow of the American Board of
Medical Genetics, and received the Presidential Award of the Genetics Society
of Canada. In 1988, she was named a Member of the Order of Canada.
