Mary Spencer has been a role model for women scientists in Canada for more than 50 years. Professor Emeritus of Plant Science and Biochemistry at the University of Alberta, she is an international authority on ethylene, its production, and its effect on the environment. Appointed to numerous leadership roles within federal scientific research organizations and becoming one of the first two women members of the National Research Council, she has helped elevate and promote womens roles in the international scientific community.
