Hanson Collection of Early Islamic Artifacts

The collection, though small, encompasses both ceramics and metals and approximately five centuries of history. The terracotta stand and glazed bowl demonstrate very different decorative styles, and are thought to be the earliest and oldest pieces (7th-9th CE and 12th CE respectively). It is likely that all of the pieces would be used everyday, as people appreciated decoration in their lives. These pieces illuminate a small slice of life in the Near East – a life imbued with rich colour and vast beauty.
