Eminent Chancellor: I present to you the Right Honorable John G. Diefenbaker, Prime Minister of Canada.Degree received: Doctor of Civil Law
Mr. Diefenbaker is truly a Saskatchewan citizen. He comes of pioneer stock. He attended Public School and High School in this Province. It was at this University that he obtained his Bachelorís and then his Masterís degree in Arts, and still later his Bachelorís degree in law. It was in Saskatchewan that he first practised law. It was here that he first entered public life.
Mr. Diefenbakerís career has been one of public service. During the First World War, he interrupted his university studies to serve his country. Following his graduation from this institution he served the University as a Member of Senate. He served this Province as a leader in its political life. He served Canada as a Member of the House of Commons. Today, as Prime Minister of Canada, his life is dedicated to the welfare of Canadians everywhere, to the well-being of the Commonwealth, and to the furtherance of peace and freedom in all parts of the world. His attainments and his devotion to public service have brought honor to himself and to the University of Saskatchewan.
As some recognition of these distinguished services, Eminent Chancellor, I ask that you confer the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Civil Law honoris causa on the Right Honorable John G. Diefenbaker.
