Eminent Chancellor, I present to you a man who is a leader in the field of cancer research. Trained as a pathologist, he has devoted the last twenty years of his life to a study of cancer, and to the provision of better facilities and support for those who wish to apply themselves to the problem of cancer. His contributions to the various national and international bodies concerned with the study of cancer have been acknowledged, in part, by his Chairmanship of the Committee on Growth of the National Research Council of the United States, and his receipt of the Walker Prize of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. As Scientific Director of the Memorial Hospital f or Cancer, and Director of the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research in New York City he exercises a wide and beneficent influence in his own institutions, in cancer research in the United States, and throughout the world.Degree received: Doctor of Laws
