Mr. Milavsky was born in Limerick, Saskatchewan and was educated at the University of Saskatchewan where he received his Bachelor of Commerce degree, He was awarded his C.A. for Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1956, and his F.C.A. (Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta) in 1984.Degree received: Doctor of Laws
Mr. Milavsky has worked for several different companies including Loram International Ltd., Power Corporation Developments Ltd. and Great West International Equities Ltd. which was acquired by Trizec Corporation Ltd. He is presently serving as Chair of the Executive Committee and Director of this Corporation. He is Chair of Carena Developments Limited. He is a Director of the Board of Amoco Canada, Brascan Limited, Coscan Development Corporation, Hees International, London Insurance Group/London Life Insurance Company, Luscar Oil and Gas Ltd., Nova Corporation, Telus Corporation, Tennis Canada and Wascana Energy Inc. He is a Past Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Past Chair of the National Employers’ Support Committee for Alberta, a Past Director of the Conference Board of Canada, and a Past Director of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program. He is a Founding Governor of the Accounting Education Foundation of Alberta and a Founding Member of the International Professional Hockey Alumni.
His nominators for the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws cite his contributions to the Canadian business and cultural communities as the reason for his nomination.
He is a Member of the Calgary Petroleum Club, the Ranchmens Club and Chancellor’s Club of the University of Calgary. He is a Member of the Calgary Racquet and Athletic Club and the Elbow Park Tennis Club.
He was awarded the B’nai Brith Award of Merit in 1985.
