Citation / biographical information:
Eminent Chancellor, I present to you Mr. Justice F.A. Sheppard.Degree received: Doctor of Laws
Mr. Sheppard graduated in Arts from the University of Toronto in 1912, and in Law from the University of Saskatchewan in 1916. After practising Law in Saskatoon from 1916 to 1928, he joined the College of Law in Saskatoon, where he was Professor of Law for the next ten years. A firstóclass teacher, he impressed those with whom he came in contact with a great sense of justice and a love of hard work. Professor Sheppard was lured away to the foggy fastnesses of Vancouver by the firm of Locke, Lane and Nicholson and, some people say, by the prospect of year-round golf. His many judicial qualities were given additional scope in 1955 when he was appointed to the Court of Appeal for British Columbia. He retired in 1965 after half a century in the practice of law and in the service of his fellow man.
Eminent Chancellor, on behalf of the Council and Senate of this University, I ask that you confer the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, on Fred. A. Sheppard, distinguished jurist.
