Ads for Cologne/Perfume
Several cologne companies use sexual symbolism to successfully sell
their products. Candie's is one of them. Their "Anywhere you Dare" slogan
is certainly suggestive as it leads the viewer to believe that if the perfume
is sprayed in all the right places, he or she will become attractive. The
images back this claim up. In one of these ads, a woman attempts to spray
cologne on a man, who is wearing only his underwear, while she attempts
to remove them. In another ad, a woman is shown wearing only her underwear.
She opens a medicine cabinet to reveal nothing but piles of condoms and
perfume; this leads one to wonder which of the items she is looking for.
A third ad is for jeans- another Candie's product. Among other things,
Candie's also sells eye wear, clothing, and shoes. Their ads are all similar
in that sexual content is predominantly used to sell their products. In
this ad, the model sits in a kitchen, holding a book entitled "The Aphrodisiac
Cookbook," and it is implied that a pair of Candie's jeans is among the
list of necessary ingredients for a night of love.
