Kevin Schneider is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and director of the Software Research Lab. He was appointed Department Head in 2005 and appointed Vice Dean (Science) for the College in 2008 for a five-year term. He is currently the Acting CIO and Associate Vice-President, Information and Communications Technology (July 1, 2011-June 30, 2012).
Before joining the College, Dr. Schneider was CEO and President of Legasys Corp., a software research and development company specializing in design recovery and automated software engineering. His research investigates models, notations and techniques that are designed to assist software project teams develop and evolve large, interactive and usable systems. He is particularly interested in approaches that encourage team creativity and collaboration.
Dr. Schneider is co-theme leader for SurfNet, an NSERC Strategic Network Grant. SurfNet is a Canadian research alliance of software engineering and human computer interaction academic researchers, industry partners, and government collaborators. The goal of SurfNet is to improve the development, performance and usability of software applications for surface computing environments (i.e., multi-touch computing devices).
Dr. Schneider is an elected member of the International Federation for Information Processing working group 2.7/13.4 on user interface engineering and past Prairie representative for the Canadian Association of Computer Science.
