Dr. Rick Bunt is Chief Information Officer and Associate Vice-President, Information and Communications Technology. He has Ph.D.and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Toronto and a B.Sc. degree from Queen’s University, and has been a Professor of Computer Science since joining the University of Saskatchewan in 1972. Prior to his current appointment he served terms as Head of the Computer Science Department and as Associate Dean for Science in the College of Arts and Science.
As the University's CIO Dr. Bunt has overseen a number of major ICT projects, including the introduction of new services for students, the development of a campus portal, the renewal of the campus computer network, the installation of wireless access facilities across campus, the development of an information strategy for the University and the implementation of new administrative support systems.
As a Computer Scientist Dr. Bunt carried out research in computer systems design and performance evaluation, with a particular focus on operating systems, distributed systems, and mobile computing. Over the course of his career he supervised more than 30 graduate students and was active in professional bodies, both nationally and internationally. He was a member of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council's Reallocations Committee and served on the Minister's Advisory Council on Information Technology in the Province of Saskatchewan. Currently he is a past President of the Canadian University Council of CIOs (CUCCIO) and a member of the Board of Directors for CANARIE.
