Biology 217.3.1 - Introductory Animal Physiology

An introduction to physiological principles. It includes consideration of physical, chemical and functional aspects of animal cells, study of membranes, cellular transport and extrusion mechanisms. Bioelectric and contractility phenomena are also included.

For my part of the course I will present the lectures in PowerPoint format. Many of the pictures, diagrams etc. will be from figures in your text book (Hill, Wyse and Anderson (2004)). Other visual material that is not in your text book may be included in a link to supplementary material (see the appropriate links below). It may be useful to print these images and bring them to the lecture.

NOTE: The full lectures WILL NOT be posted on the web nor distributed. It will be your responsibility to attend the lectures and take your own notes.

My lectures cover:

Transmembrane Potentials and Bioelectricity - supplementary material

Intercellular Communication

Muscle Physiology - supplementary material

Signal Transduction - supplementary material
