Statistics

A preliminary report from the ‘Student Needs Assessment Survey’ conducted by University of Saskatchewan Student Health Service in February of 2003, indicates that sexual assault* is a concern for U of S students.

  • 8.3% of Females and 1.3% of Males reported having been sexually assaulted since starting University. **It should be noted taht these assaults did not necessarily occur on campus.
  • The most common perpetrator of sexual assault was a date or acquaintance. A stranger, ex-partner and steady boyfriend/girlfriend followed closely.

Here are some Canadian statistics for you:

  • In 87% of reported cases of sexual assault, the women knew their assailants
  • 24% of women age 18-24 have been sexually attacked by a date or boyfriend
  • 20.2% of female students said that they gave into unwanted sexual intercourse because they were overwhelmed by a man's continued arguments and pressure.
  • 13.6% of female students said that, when they were drunk or high, a man attempted unwanted sexual intercourse.
