Traffic Safety
|
Campus Safety is tasked with the enforcement and control of traffic on campus. During the winter session the Special Constables may direct traffic during high volume times and for special events. The entire purpose of traffic control is to provide a safe and efficient path for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians. For your safety and the safety of others, we appreciate your cooperation by following the directions of the Special Constable directing traffic at these times. The fine for disobeying the directions of a Special Constable is $150.00

University Special Constables have the authority of a Peace Officer to enforce the Traffic Safety Act and the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act. All Constables are trained in radar operation and the speed limit of 40 KM/H is strictly enforced. Traffic safety is a crucial part of your community's efforts to reduce collisions and save lives! During the year, Selective Traffic Enforcement Programs targeting special areas of the Traffic Safety Act and University Act are conducted. These programs target drinking and driving, driving at unsafe or excessive speeds, non-use of seat belts, inadequate vehicle equipment, and disobeying control devices such as red lights or stop signs. The purpose of these programs is to raise public awareness of road safety issues, and is our department's contribution toward Transport Canada's Road Safety Vision 2010, a national effort aimed at making Canada's roads the safest in the world. These projects will be published in the various Campus Newspapers. |
