What should I do if I've been sexually assaulted?

  •  Do tell someone you trust. If the person you tell doesn’t believe you, keep on telling until someone does.
  •  Do call the Sexual Assault Centre for support and counselling. They are available 24 hours a day. You can call just to talk or to have someone to go with you to the hospital or police station.
  •  Don’t wash yourself, don’t change or throw out your clothing, don’t comb your hair, eat or drink anything, take drugs or alcohol. Any of the above can interfere with collecting evidence.
  •  Do get medical attention (to check for injuries, STI’s, pregnancy).
  •  Do consider reporting to the police. Campus Safety can also assist and be there until police arrive on scene. Campus Safety can be reached at 306-966-5555.
  •  Any sexual assault against a person under 16 years of age must be reported to the police; otherwise, it is a personal choice.
  • Remember that what happened to you is not your fault. No one has the right to pressure, threaten or force you to participate in any sexual activity without your consent.
