Students, who are not native English speakers, must demonstrate English language proficiency. Registration in a graduate program will not be permitted until official test results have been received. International students should obtain an acceptable test score before entering Canada.
If you have successfully completed a degree in an English speaking country, your English language requirement will be considered fulfilled. Click here to view a list of countries where students do not need to show English language proficiency.
The College of Graduate Studies and Research sets the minimum requirements for admission. These are the minimum English proficiency requirements for admission set by the College of Graduate Studies and Research for the most common test types.
|Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet Based Test (TOEFL IBT)||20||80||18|
|International English language Testing System (IELTS)||6.5||6.5||6.0|
|Pearson Test of English (PTE)||59||59||54|
Students with an overall score that meets the requirements, but with a remedial minimum in only one area (reading, writing, speaking or listening), may be admitted. This requires the recommendation of the Interdisciplinary Committee and approval from the College of Graduate Studies and Research. The student will be required to take a remedial part-time English class during their first term.
All tests are valid for two years after the testing date.
For the TOEFL, our Institution Code is 0980. For more information go to the TOEFL website.
