Confucius Institute Opens June 18th

The Confucius Institute, a new U of S centre that will provide Chinese language and culture courses and promote study abroad student exchange programs with China, opened on June 18th. This long awaited center is the result of a collaborative effort between the University of Saskatchewan and a long-time partner university in China, the Beijing Institute of Technology.

The opening ceremony was attended by a four member delegation from the Beijing Institute of Technology including Dr. Changlu Zhao, Vice President, Dr. Jian Li, Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr. Yulin Deng, Dean, School of Life Science, and Ms.Ying Wang, Associate Director, International Office.

The College of Graduate Studies and Research and the Beijing Institute of Technology have been working together for over ten years to provide graduate student research and training opportunities. With the establishment of the Confucius Institute, it is anticipated that more U of S  students will be able to gain a basic level of Chinese that will enable them to take advantage of the exchange opportunities and scholarships available through BIT, by our sister university.
