Scholarship Opportunity - Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP)

ELAP is an annual program offered by the Government of Canada that provides scholarships for student and research exchanges at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.  As part of this program, the U of S nominates between 3 and 5 interested students, based on the recommendation of partner universities, and assists these students in finding a faculty member with appropriate research expertise at the U of S to supervise their program.

Candidates must be citizens of and enrolled full-time at a post-secondary institution in one of the eligible program countries including:

  • Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos;
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama;
  • North America: Mexico; or
  • South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela.

Candidates interested in this program are encouraged to contact the university officers at their home institution, who in turn inform the International Research Facilitator at the U of S.  As well, candidates should submit a summary of their current graduate research project in order to assist the International Research Facilitator to pair the student with a faculty member who has similar research interests.
