Escuela Superior Polit├ęcnica del Litoral - UofS Partnership

The College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) is pleased to announce a new partnership agreement with Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL), located in Guayaquil, Ecuador.  Established in 1958, this prestigious university is ranked within the top five in Ecuador and has a long history of research strength in navel engineering, mining and petroleum engineering and plant science. On behalf of ESPOL, Rector Sergio Flores Macias welcomed the delegation from the UofS in April, 2013. The UofS delegation, coordinated and led by the CGSR,  included two faculty ambassadors, Professor Leon Wegner from Civil and Geological Engineering and Professor Hugo Cota-Sanchez  from Biology, as well as Danny Freire from the U of S Language Centre.

This was the second time a delegation from the CGSR visited ESPOL, and at the conclusion of the visit, a partnership agreement was signed. This agreement facilitates graduate student exchanges, research collaborations as well as providing the antecedent for ESPOL students to apply for scholarships from the Canadian government under the Emerging Leaders of America program. During the visit, Professors Wegner and Cota-Sanchez met with faculty and students in engineering biology and plant science and have begun the process of identifying areas for future collaboration.

Currently, the UofS welcomes two students from ESPOL who have begun or will begin their programs in the 2013/2014 academic term – one in public policy and one in plant science.
