Escuela Politécnica del Ejército - UofS Partnership

The College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR) is pleased to announce a new partnership agreement with Escuela Politécnica del Ejército (ESPE), located in Quito Ecuador. This prestigious university is ranked within the top five in Ecuador and has a long history of research strength in engineering and plant science. On behalf of ESPE, Rector Chavez welcomed the delegation from the UofS in April, 2013. The UofS delegation, coordinated and led by the CGSR,  included two faculty ambassadors, Professor Leon Wegner from Civil and Geological Engineering and Professor Hugo Cota-Sanchez  from Biology, as well as Danny Freire from the U of S Language Centre.

This was the second time a delegation from the CGSR visited ESPE, and at the conclusion of the visit, a partnership agreement was signed. This agreement facilitates doctoral students to come to the UofS to do full PhD degrees on scholarship from ESPE, and equally important, it will act as the catalyst for faculty research collaborations. During the visit, Professors Wegner and Hugo-Sanchez met with faculty and students in engineering biology and plant science and have begun the process of identifying areas for future collaboration.

Currently, the UofS welcomes three doctoral students from ESPE who will begin their programs in the 2013/2014 academic term – two in engineering and one in plant science.  Rector Chavez and a delegation from ESPE will be visiting the UofS in September.
