The Project:
The Department of Food & Bioproduct Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan seeks a highly qualified candidate to conduct M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree research in the gene cloning and enzyme characterization of Pro-Xaa dipeptidase. Proline is a unique amino acid and the peptides involved with proline resist to the general proteolysis enzymes. Proline-specific peptidases are, therefore, unique from other peptidases. In this project, Pro-Xaa dipeptidase is studies in order to reveal the difference and similarity to general peptidases and Xaa-Pro dipeptidase. The research will utilize a wide range of modern biotechnological methods, including X-ray crystallography, genetic engineering, molecular modeling, and enzymology techniques.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be highly motivated to pursue a research career. Applicants should have a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or related life sciences. Furthermore, interested individuals holding a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in one of the aforementioned fields ought to have a minimum average of 75% before considering submission of an application. Some laboratory experience would be highly beneficial. The ability to work independently is necessary as are good oral and written communication skills. A successful application to the College of Graduate Studies at the University of Saskatchewan will be required.
Starting Date:
The student is to commence as soon as possible. The position will be open until a suitable student is identified.
Stipend:
The standard University graduate stipend for the successful candidate is available: M.Sc. $15,000~ /year or Ph.D. $18,000~ /year.
