The Project:
The present study will evaluate processing conditions and their interactions with feed additives (enzymes, and different sources of free amino acids) on the capacity to improve the nutritional, functional and sensory quality of sources of vegetable protein (e.g. co-products of oilseeds or legume seeds); and thereby make it more competitive with fish protein meals in poultry and fish diets.
Peptides (small chains of amino acids formed during processing and digestion of proteins) can have bioactive properties that can increase the production and health of animals consuming them. If proprietary use of feed processing in combination with feed additives (e.g. free amino acids or enzymes, particularly proteases) can be developed to increase delivery of intact and bioactive peptides from vegetable protein sources, this technology would increase utilization and demand.
