The Project:
Doctoral students are being sought to conduct rsearch on the bioremediation of metal contaminated lakes. The positions will be funded through an ongoing partnership between the Limnology Laboratory and the mining industry. We have been developing benign biological approaches to rapidly reduce metal concentrations in surface waters. Research will involve both field and laboratory experimentation and can include (depending on student interests) the use of the University's synchrotron facility and Structural Sciences Centre. The first phase of field studies will start this spring.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have an M.Sc. or be near completion of an M.Sc. In addition, candidates should have training in the aquatic sciences (ecological). Experience in water chemistry would also be an asset.
Stipend: Industrial postgraduate scholarship (minimum $21,000).
