The Opportunity:
Ph.D. student position in leukocyte recruitment and inflammation
The Project:
The laboratory of Dr. Lixin Liu in the Dept. of Pharmacology at the University of Saskatchewan has a postiion currently opening for a Ph.D. student to study the cellular and molecular mechanisms of leukocyte recruitment during inflammation. This laboratory is equipped with a new intravital microscope system and is interested in the role of intracellular signaling molecules in leukocyte recruitment. The current research in the lab is to explore the role of LSP1 and PI3K in neutrophils and in endothelial cells during neutrophil recruitment and transendothelial migration using mouse models. The techniques used are intravital microscopy combined with cell biology and biochemistry techniques.
Qualifications:
The applicant should have a master degree in immunology, inflammation, cellular biology, biochemistry or in related fields, excellent laboratory skills and communication skills in English, enthusiasm in research and ability to work independently and in a team environment. Experience in research using mouse models, imaging techniques and/or cell-cell interactions will be a plus.
Starting Date: Anytime but preferably early in the 2010 year.
Stipend: According tot he commended level suggested by CGSR.
How to Apply:
Send application in email to lixin.liu@usask.ca, or fax to Lixin Liu at 306-966-6220, or in mail to Dr. Lixin Liu, Dept. of Pharmacology, University of Saskatchewan, 107 Wiggins Road, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada S7N 5E5.
