The Opportunity:
A Ph.D. position is currently available in Dr. Stephen Urquhart’s research group. Depending on the successful applicant’s background, enrollment will be in the Chemistry or Physics graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan.
Project Description:
The Ph.D. student will join an international team of materials scientists, engineers, synchrotron scientists and industrial partners, engaged in the fabrication and characterization of high efficiency light emitting materials. The student’s role will be measuring “strain” in semiconductor devices, by polarization dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy. This research will be performed at the Canadian Light Source (www.lightsource.ca), using the x-ray photoelectron emission microscope (X-PEEM), located at the SpectroMicroscopy beamline.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will hold a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Chemistry or Physics, experience in spectroscopy and materials chemistry, excellent communication skills in English, enthusiasm for research and ability to work independently and in a team environment. Prior experience in synchrotron methods is not required, but familiarity with spectroscopy for materials analysis, surface / UHV technology and instrumentation are useful assets.
Applications:
Applicants should submit a CV, list of publications, names and detailed contact information of three referees to Stephen.urquhart@usask.ca
