The Opportunity:
I am looking for a student interested in pursuing a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree while studying treatments for stroke.
Project Description:
We have been investigating how nutritional status can independently influence the extent of brain damage and recovery that occurs following stroke. However, combined therapies are expected to be essential for future effective stroke treatment. In addition to exerting independent effects, nutritional factors could alter the response to promising medical treatments. To test this idea, the research project will address whether protein-energy malnutrition diminishes the protective effects of hypothermia (brain cooling) following stroke.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science degree is required with specialization in a relevant discipline. Since part of the research will be conducted with a collaborator at the University of Alberta, the applicant must be willing to live in Edmonton for several months. Additional qualifications include having obtained a cumulative average of at least 80% over the last 60 credit hours/units of the baccalaureate program.
