Prospective Graduate Students

Thank you for your interest in our research group. I assume that you have surfed through our WEB site (e.g. under RESEARCH or PUBLICATIONS) and are interested in synthetic organic chemistry, particularly in our research program on ‘the development of novel strategies and methodologies for application in the synthesis of natural products and their analogues’.

If you are interested in the possibility of entering our graduate program, I suggest that you submit a complete application as soon as possible. Applications from Canadian students can be considered at any time. Applications from international students are typically considered in Nov-Jan with offers of admission made in Jan-Mar to allow sufficient time to obtain the necessary visa. Generally new students initiate their graduate programs in September. Occasionally students admitted ‘fully qualified’ into a Ph.D. program begin at other times of the year. You may obtain information on our graduate prorgams and forms for admission at:
http://www.usask.ca/chemistry/
We will need 3 letters of recommendation to complete your application. You can access information about the research programs of all our faculty as well as general information about our programs and about the University and Saskatoon in general at the above URL or links at that site. If you are interested in the possibility of joining any of the research groups in our Department, then I suggest that you contact the appropriate faculty member(s) directly. In your application you should clearly indicate those faculty that you have contacted and those groups that you have an interest in joining. All students admitted to our graduate programs who do not hold a major scholarship receive full financial support (for 2008-09: M.Sc., min. $17,500/y; Ph.D., min. $19,500/y) that is renewable yearly based on satisfactory performance. Major scholarship holders (e.g. NSERC PGS) receive additional ‘top up’ support.
If you are specifically interested in the possibility of joining my group then I would suggest that you send your completed application materials directly to me (or let me know that you have sent them) so that I can monitor the progress of the admissions process. If you wish, you can ask your references to e-mail their respective letters to me directly (in any case, the signed originals should be forwarded by mail). In evaluating applications to my group, I give preference to those expressing interest in a Ph.D. program (ca. 4-5 years to complete). If I can offer any additional information that would be of help, please contact me.

I look forward to reviewing your application.
