What is Tension?
Tension uses energy and makes your muscles tired because the muscles are constantly tight or contracting. Different people feel tension in different ways. Your muscles might be tight. You might bite your nails, fidget in your seat or feel restless. Your breathing may be fast and your heart pounding. You will likely feel a bit nervous or jumpy.

When you're feeling nervous, you may react more strongly or quickly to little hassles than we would normally. For example, you might get very upset if you can't find a library book that is due. Feeling upset or worried can cause your muscles to become more tight. For example, if you are worried about a test you have to take, your muscles will become tighter and you may begin to feel pain coming on.

Most people who have headaches or RAP are constantly tense even though they may not know it. Some people have tension in the neck, many people clench their teeth and others may keep the muscles of their belly tight.

One of the goals of this program is to help you learn how to use relaxation to get rid of your tension.
