This two day course addresses issues of acute myocardial infarction recognition, diagnosis and management, fibrinolysis, and cardiac arrest management as per guidelines established by the American Heart Association and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. An ACLS Provider Manual and the American Heart Association Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care is provided for pre-study at this course. Extensive testing in simulated megacode scenarios is an integral part of this advanced care course. Both provider and re-registration courses are offered. Re-registration is recommended every two years.
BLS-C in the last 12-months
You must provide to CPL current proof of certification of BLS-C (Healthcare Provider Level) prior to taking the ACLS course. BLS-C must be provided by a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan instructor. Red Cross or St. John's Ambulance BLS-C cards will not be accepted.
A selections committee at the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan selects eligible candidates based on perceived need for instructors within Saskatchewan and advises of the need for a course. This course explores effective ways to teach ACLS students and evaluates probationary instructors on their abilities to lecture, guide small group sessions, integrate adult education principles, and objectively evaluate others.
This one day course held every two to three years, is an attendance requirement for all ACLS Instructors in Saskatchewan. Newer and more effective methods of teaching ACLS students, plus updated topics relating to ACLS are presented and practiced in small group settings.
