The PRIMARY survey should detect immediately life-threatening injuries.
- Airway obstruction
- Open pneumothorax
- Flail chest
- Tension pneumothorax
- Massive hemothorax
- Cardiac tamponade
- Epidural Hematoma
By the end of the PRIMARY survey there should be:
- Cervical spine immobilization
- External hemorrhage control
- Brief neurological examination completed
- Full exposure and environmental control
- Supplemental oxygen
- TWO large bore intravenous lines
- ECG, BP, SaO2 monitoring
- Gastric and urinary catheters (unless ruled out by physical findings)
- Diagnostics and crossmatch
- Initial imaging
and
- Fluid resuscitation commenced
- Immediately life threatening injuries ruled out
