Workshop Overview

Target Audience
This 2-day workshop is intended for providers of Maternal - Newborn care whose current clinical practice includes Antepartum & Intrapartum care. The target audience is Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners. Physicians and Midwives are welcome to attend as an update, or as an introduction to intrapartum care for physicians in which obstetrics was not included as a component of their undergraduate curriculum.

The workshop is limited to 20 participants.


The course addresses the routine care and management of low-risk patients as well at-risk and high risk conditions during pregnancy and birth.  Participants:

  • Review maternal assessment and practice labour assessment skills
  • Discuss guidelines for clinical practice for a variety of clinical situations encountered when caring for women in the antenatal and intrapartum period.
  • Review principles of management of obstetrical emergencies including vaginal delivery in the absence of the primary care provider, shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, antepartum & postpartum haemorrhage.   

General Information

Registration fee of $350.00 + GST includes a coil bound book of all handouts and resources used for the 2-day workshop.

This is not a Certification Program

At the completion of this course participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Perinatal Education Program.  This in no way implies clinical competence in the content area, but indicates the participant has completed the course as outlined.


The College of Family Physicians of Canada Mainpro (Maintenance of Proficiency) is the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) program designed to support and promote continuing professional development for family physicians. Family physicians may be able to earn Mainpro+ credits for participation in the Best Practice in Intrapartum Care workshop as part of an individualized Linking Learning to Practice project
Nurses, Midwives, and other Healthcare Professionals

Participation in this workshop can contribute towards the continuing competence programs established by provincial regulatory bodies for midwives, nurses and respiratory therapists.

Saskatchewan Medical Association (SMA) Education Bank

Up to three thousand dollars ($3000.00) of fees for recognized continuing medical education (CME) activities can be recovered each year by Saskatchewan physicians from the CME fund as managed by the SMA.

Payment, Cancellation and Refund Policy

Please note that we accept payment only by credit card or institutional/company cheque payable to the University of Saskatchewan. Registrations will not be processed until payment is received. Fees include lunch and event materials.

Refund policy: Cancellations must be received in writing (mail) or e-mail to by November 20, 2017 and will be subject to a $60.00 + GST administration fee. Refunds will not be considered after November 20, 2017. The University of Saskatchewan, Division of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course due to insufficient registration or circumstances beyond our control. This course may be cancelled prior to the course date. Each registrant will be notified with a full refund following. Continuing Medical Education, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan is not responsible for any other costs including, but not limited to, airline or hotel penalties. Continuing Medical Education cannot accept registration substitutions.
