DEATHS

  • Eyrle E. Brooks passed away Dec. 5 in Saskatoon at age 79.  He retired as a professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1989, and was prof. emeritus.  Born and raised in Floral, Sask., he graduated from the U of S and the U of Iowa.  He taught at the U of S for more than 40 years.  He is survived by his wife Muriel and children Harry, Marilyn, Ken, and Carolyn.


  • Peter Millard passed away Dec. 8 in Saskatoon at age 69.  He retired in 1992 from the faculty of the English Dept.  Born in Wales and raised in England, he studied at McGill University and Oxford.  He  came to the U of S in 1962 and distinguished himself in a number of roles.  He was chair of the Faculty Assn. (1987-88), chair of the art committee of Council, head of the English Dept. 1985-91, and was also an avid art collector, and was an influential in gay rights and human rights, and was the first recipient of the Doug Wilson Award at the U of S.  He is survived by brothers and sisters Cassie, Ieuan, Laura, and Mal.  A memorial was held at the Faculty Club Jan. 5.


  • Barbara Gartner passed away Dec. 3 in Saskatoon at age 51.  She was an active employee in the Bookstore (CUPE member) at the time of her death.  She was originally from Biggar, Sask.  She is survived by her husband Les, sons Brett and Jonathon, sister Marlene, and brothers Bob, Mick, and Larry Harrabeck.

  • Archie Gordon Dixon passed away Oct. 27.  He retired from the U of S in October 1994 from his position as Assistant of Controls Engineering, in the Mechanical Engineering Department.
  • Alvin L. Norelius passed away Oct. 30.  He retired from the U of S in June 1987 from his position as a Technician in the Department of Chemistry.
  • Linda S. Yu passed away Oct. 5.  She was on disability leave at the time of her death, from her position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Microbiology & Food Science in the College of Agriculture.
