The University of Saskatchewan is an essential, primary partner in the Ministry of Social Services' plan for meeting the needs of people evacuated from their communities due to natural or man-made disasters. The ability for the university to quickly provide lodging, meal services, security and recreational activities for evacuees, along with the close proximity to Royal University Hospital, makes it an ideal, primary site.

The university has been used to house and meet the needs of evacuees in 1995, 2006, and again in 2008, when residents of northern Saskatchewan communities were evacuated from their homes due to floods or forest fires."

Tony Caissie, Regional Manager of Emergency Social Services for the Ministry of Social Services, Centre Region
