Err On The Side Of Caution!

If there is no sign saying you CAN park, then you CANNOT. Read all signage CAREFULLY!

Am I blocking another vehicle? If you are not SURE, find another spot. An easy rule of thumb to follow is: If you have not paid for parking, chances are, you are parked illegally!

There is no free parking on campus including Royal University Hospital. Whether you are a visitor, staff member or student, you must pay for parking. Parking Enforcement receives thousands of complaints each year from people inconvenienced by a poor parking decision.

PARK SMART!

The following are some regulations that are often misunderstood by users:

• It is prohibited to stop with a vehicle's left side (driver's side) to the curb, including one way streets. Examples of other unmarked no stopping zones include: sidewalks, boulevards, crosswalks, intersections and roadways. It is illegal to stop on any roadway.
• Park in designated areas only. At the University, there are signs at every entrance which indicate to park in designated areas only. This places the onus of responsibility on the user to ensure where they are parked is designated. Meters, curbstones in specified lots, or signs designate parking. Many no parking areas are not signed. The University is a beautiful place and we do not wish to destroy the esthetics of our campus with unnecessary and plentiful signage.
• Restrictions apply 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, eg: NO PARKING AREAS (non-designated areas) are ALWAYS NO PARKING. Simply because it is late at night, or the lot appears to be nearly empty, or there doesn't look to be any disabled persons around, does not mean it is okay to park in these spaces even if there are several unoccupied.
• There are specific spaces which have been designated for the exclusive use of persons with a DISABILITY. Only vehicles displaying the proper permit may use these areas. The spaces are protected 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The University has a 'NO TOLERANCE POLICY' in regard to the use of stalls reserved for a person with a disability. Disabled stalls are designated as a tow away zone if a proper permit is not displayed. Parking in a disabled stall, even for a few minutes, can result in a violation and your vehicle being towed.
• VEHICLE MUST BE OCCUPIED. This means that the vehicle must be driver occupied in pick up or drop off zones. The driver must remain in the vehicle at all times.
• SERVICE VEHICLES is an often misunderstood category. If you are paid to do a service for the University (in whatever capacity), we do not also provide free parking.  Simply because you are delivering supplies, working on machines, etc, does NOT qualify your vehicle as a service vehicle even if clearly marked with your company logo. Service vehicle permits may be obtained by University owned or leased vehicles only. Other businesses doing service work do not qualify as service vehicles. Other arrangements for a fee can be made at the discretion of the Parking and Transportation Office.
