Bylaws & Policies
What are Parking Bylaws and why do we have them?
- Simply put, bylaws are regulations made by a municipality to enhance the safety, security and parking availability for all.
- Imagine for a moment, the University without rules for parking. Would you be able to park anywhere for as long as you wanted? Hardly! It would be difficult, if not impossible, to find a parking space. Lines of sight for pedestrians would be blocked and emergency vehicles would not have clear access to hydrants or a clear route to an accident or fire.
- Following these simple rules will save you the cost, inconvenience and frustration of receiving a violation.
.
- A parking summons for a court appearance will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner. It is the registered owner's responsibility to ensure that the proper address is registered with their provincial licensing authority.
- A default conviction or deemed convicted will result if the violator does not appear in court as required by the summons.
- A late payment fee of an additional $40 will be added where a fine remains unpaid 30 days following the conviction.
- A lien may be registered on a vehicle where the owner has outstanding convictions, and the fines and late payment fee are in default. This may include a lien on all vehicles registered to that owner. All expenses from such action are the responsibility of the owner.
- The vehicle may be seized, immobolized or impounded. All fees and expenses related to same will be the responsibility of the owner.
- The vehicle could be sold at public auction to recover outstanding funds.
- A warrant of committal could be issued after convictions remain unsatisfied.
