Parking for Persons with a Disability
This applies to all faculty, staff, students and visitors.
Reserved spaces for people with a disability are reserved 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. The University has a "no tolerance" policy in regard to stalls reserved for person's with a disability. There is never a good excuse to park illegally in these stalls.
There are two kinds of parking for persons with a disability:
"Reserved parking spots allow all people with disabilities which may or may not be visible, the opportunity to participate in daily activities without endangering their health."
Paul Charlebois,
Sask Abilities Council.
- Reserved Parking: All persons with a Disability (temporary or permanent) may apply to Parking and Transportation Services for a disabled permit that must be displayed on their vehicle at all times. Space is assigned to people with disabilities based on medical need. Medical documentation will be required to verify the degree of disability and to assess the length of time for which the disability is expected to last.
The SPECIAL PARKING REQUEST FORM is available for DOWNLOAD here.
Applicants will require a valid placard issued by the authority in their jurisdiction. Parking and Transportation Services reserves the right to require independent medical assessment.
2. Generic Disabled: There are many areas throughout campus that we have provided, designated, and signed as generic disabled stalls. These are marked by small white/blue meters carrying the universal "disabled" symbol. Most of these stalls are also painted with the appropriate symbol. You may use your disabled placard at any of these stalls and pay the appropriate meter charge. If you use these stalls on a regular basis, please contact Parking and Transportation Services as we may be able to arrange a more convenient payment solution. We occasionally use these "generic" stalls for short term disabilities by providing users with a permit to park in these areas. The cost of said parking is varied (according to location) and is the same as for anyone else using that location.
Conditions of Disability Parking:
- Disability stalls cannot be shared. If you are driving a disabled person, you may be provided with parking however it will NOT be in a disabled space. You may carpool but ONLY if the disabled person is present when the vehicle is parked. The disabled person MUST be qualified and able to drive in order to be considered for a disability space. Disability spaces are monitored and any ABUSE could result in a loss of privileges and perhaps violations.
- Permits must be properly displayed on the rear view mirror at all times when parked in a designated disabled space.
- Disability stalls are a very valuable resource and some areas are very highly used. Please provide your schedule so that stalls can be shared where possible.
- If you no longer require the stall or will be away for a period of more than one week (medical leave, sabbatical, classes etc), please let Parking and Transportation Services know so that we may utilize the stall in your absence. You cannot give someone else permission to use the stall at ANYTIME.
