The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) announced that it has reached an agreement with Access Copyright on a new model licence. AUCC's press release can be found here. The U of S is in the process of analyzing the model licence, including associated documentation, to determine whether it would be in our best interest to enter into this agreement with Access Copyright or whether we should continue operating outside of the proposed tariff and model license.

Bill C-11 (an Act to Amend the Copyright Act) has passed through the legislative committee process and should likely become law by summer. An amended version of Bill C-11 has been posted here and a report from the Legislative Committee on Bill C-11 can be found

Copyright bill reinitroduced at the House of Commons: Formerly known as Bill C-32, the new Bill C-11 has been submitted (reportedly unchanged) as "An Act to Amend the Copyright Act" and will now proceed through the legislative committee hearings process.

The Copyright Coordinator and some delegates visited areas across campus to distribute copies of the university's new Copyright Guidlines poster. Copies have also been mailed to some on- and off-campus sites. These posters must be displayed at all copy machine locations. If you did not receive a copy (or if you would like to request more copies) please contact copyright.help@usask.ca and outline your request.

The Copyright Advisory Committe emailed a memo to teaching staff regarding the newly adopted Fair Dealing Guidelines. In order to facilitate course planning for the upcoming term, a Quick Reference Guide for Instructors was also distributed with the memo.

Because of the Copyright Board's decision to grant an interim tariff relating to post-secondary copying on December 23, 2010, there are some factual errors in the memo circulated to staff and faculty at that time. Please see following document, which outlines how you can use and distribute course materials under the interim tariff.

On December 23, 2010 the Copyright Board of Canada approved Access Copyright's application for an Interim Tariff that will cover post-secondary copying for three years or until the proposed tariff is certified, whichever comes first. The interim tariff is nearly identical to previous license agreemetns that the University of Saskatcehewan has signed with Access Copyright. Summer, 2009
In the summer of 2009 the Government of Canada conducted broad consultations regarding future amendments to the Copyright Act. The University of Saskatchewan has submitted a set of recommendations in response to these consultations. Our recommendations stress balance and fairness in legislation. You can read them here.
