Student Life in the College of Dentistry

There is no way to escape the fact that life as a dental student is loaded with class lectures, tons of clinical work, labs, assignments, exams and hours of studying…however student life is also all about embarking on new experiences, making lifelong friends, and getting involved in the wide variety of social activities within the college .

At the U of S College of Dentistry, you will belong to a student body that is very close and supportive.  You will notice that students of all years interact and hang out together outside of the academic setting.  In school, upper-year students are always willing to help the new students in the college adapt and succeed in their dental school career.

Aside from all your academic responsibilities, you will have plenty of opportunities to get involved beyond the classroom. Some of the major social activities within the college include initiation for the first year students, Fall Welcome, the Annual Kent McLeod Golf Tournament, a curling tournament, several pub crawls and other events throughout the year.  As a student, you could simply attend the social events, or even take an active role in planning events by joining one of our various committees or become an executive in our student society, the Saskatchewan Dental Students’ Society (

Intramural sports are huge in the college.   Whether it is hockey, volleyball, soccer, ultimate, or basketball, you will always have an opportunity to join our well supported teams.  In fact, if you end up playing for the G.V. Blackhawks, our dentistry hockey team, you will have the opportunity to battle your professors as part of the Annual Student-Prof hockey game.

Outside of the college, the University of Saskatchewan provides an immense number of opportunities to get involved in campus life including volunteering activities, cheering on the U of S Huskies in their varsity sporting events, attending a fine arts performance, or checking out the various types of entertainment at Louis’, the campus restaurant and bar. Do you like to go to the gym? All students have free access to the brand-new 13,000 square foot Physical Activity Complex (PAC) that includes a triple gymnasium, climbing wall, squash/racquetball courts, and a running track.  Check out the University of Saskatchewan website for more details:
