The “Lest We Forget” project is designed to encourage students in Dr. Ashleigh Androsoff’s second-year Canadian history survey course (HIST256) to make a personal connection with soldiers and nurses who served in Canada’s war effort a century ago. It is also designed to introduce students to the techniques historians use in evaluating primary source material. Students begin by selecting a soldier or nurse from Saskatchewan who served during the Great War. Drawing from digitized service records (which are accessible through Library and Archives Canada’s website) and scholarly secondary source research, students produce a written report and a public commemoration of their soldier or nurse’s service. Students who completed the course in the winter term of 2017 created websites, slideshows, poems, plays, scrapbooks, sculptures, paintings, and drawings, some of which are exhibited here.
Thank you to everyone who attened our public event for the project on November 29.
The exhibit runs from November 10th to December 10th.
