Adult Literacy in Canada and Sweden:
From Policy to Practice

The purpose of this research is to gain an understanding of factors that may account for the differences between adult literacy levels in Canada and Sweden as reported in the International Adult Literacy Survey. This qualitative research compares adult education in the two countries at three levels: planning, implementation and personal experience. Rural and urban locations in each country are studied using a social policy perspective. The research is funded by the Valuing Literacy Strategic Funding and is a partnership between the University of Saskatchewan and the Movement for Canadian Literacy.
