| Study Circles provide a wide range
of learning opportunities for adults throughout Sweden.
They are organized by branches of the eleven national
voluntary organizations. ABF is one of the largest
and SV is one of the smaller organizations. |

ABF is the Workers’ Education
Association and SV is the Centre and Office of
ABF in Umeå, the largest voluntary organization
in Sweden that offers a range of study circles
and cultural activities particularly for trade
union members

Participants in the ABF day
school for unionized workers. These industrial
and municipal workers had paid leave from their
workplaces to study English, Swedish, Math and
computers one day a week for thirty weeks.

SV for seniors met Friday afternoons in April to
discuss the pros and cons of Sweden joining the
European Monetary Union, to prepare for voting
in the September 2003 referendum.
