The College of Education Academic Awards Ceremony was held January 28, 2012 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Saskatoon.
This year the reunion was celebrated by the opening of the new Practical and Applied Arts (PAA) labs.
The College of Education prepares pre-service teachers to teach in the educational system. The PAA program provides basic competence skills for the next generation in welding, carpentry, building construction, drafting, entrepreneurship skills, family living including foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, resource management, and housing concerns. Functional literacy in the trades and home economics are required to have a positive effect on our standard of living and society as a whole.
PAA educators teach the next generation the skills required to manage a home and explore the trades. The skills learned are transferable to the business world. The College of Education is preparing pre-service teachers to teach in the educational system. Recently, we have improved the on-campus PAA labs where some of that teaching happens.
The University of Saskatchewan hosted a reunion for those alumni of the University who graduated from the University forty, forty-five, fifty, fifty-five, and sixty years or more ago. This year, alumni of all colleges who graduated in any of the following years were invited - 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964 and 1968, as well as all college years from 1928 to 1948.
