Kelli
Boklaschuk is currently
the Instructional Team Leader at the Saskatoon Catholic Cyber
School. She has been teaching for the past 11 years with
the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School division. Over
the past 6 years Kelli has been developing and coordinating
the implementation of Elementary Cyber Planets (grade 2-8),
Learning communities and other educational technology resources
for SCCS.
She obtained a Master’s Degree in Educational
Technology and communication from the University of Saskatchewan
in 2003.
Kelli, along with two other teachers, was presented
with the Canadian Microsoft Innovating Teaching Award in 2007. The
project involved integrating technology into the grade four
science curriculum while also involving Art, Technology and
Language Arts. They were among five winners from Canada
who attended the Worldwide Innovative Teacher’s Conference
in Finland.
The Kirkpatrick award will enable Kelli to pursue
training on the use of Microsoft OneNote in Online and face-to-face
classes. She
will be visiting a school outside of Seattle, Washington who
uses OneNote and tablet PC’s instead of paper and textbooks. Kelli
hopes to bring back the knowledge needed to implement this
type of instruction and provide professional development opportunities
for educators in her school division and those who connect
with Cyber School via the Association of Online K-12 Schooling. |

Mischa Davison is currently a graduate student
in the School and Counselling Psychology program at the University
of Saskatchewan. Her background is in cross-cultural education
and she has taught English as a Second Language to refugee children
and adults. She is presently completing her Masters thesis
on women’s experiences in expressive movement sessions. As
a counsellor in training, Mischa is interested in using somatic
therapy to assist traumatized children and adults suffering from
PTSD (post traumatic stress Disorder). As a recipient of
the Kirkpatrick Travel Award, Mischa will be able to travel to
Winnipeg to attend workshops in “Self Regulation Therapy”,
a cutting-edge somatic therapy developed and utilized by the
Canadian Foundation for Trauma Research and Education (CFTRE). This
approach honours the individual’s inherent strengths and
resources and integrates both body and mind in the counseling
process for more complete emotional healing. Mischa is
hopeful that she will be able to bring these skills to future
work with both children in schools and adults in the community
who, as a result of their trauma, are struggling with such prevalent
issues as addictions, intra-familial violence and eating disorders. |
