Sample Lesson Plans | Teaching
Methods
Objectives:
For students to experience physical activity outside a school setting
Present opportunities to students that the school can’t offer
Learn the basics to wall climbing
Learn team work and trust in an applied setting
CEL’s: communication, critical and creative thinking, technological
literacy
Instructional Method: field trip
Materials:
Change of gym clothes
All of the climbing equipment will be provided
Estimated Time:
60 minutes plus travel time
Before the trip: Assuming parents signed waiver forms already, information forms will be cleared with the principal, and then sent home to parents a week in advance. The rock climbing area supervisor will have been notified in advance, or the rock wall will have been booked for the class.
Motivational Set:
This will probably not be required because the students will get a chance
to be active in a new activity. Mention the trip a week in advance to excite
the students.
Procedure/Activities:
The students will first get training from an instructor on how to use the
equipment and rock climbing discourse properly. They will have to partner
up because it requires a climber and a belae (student who operates rope).
Students will alternate between climbs. An hour of climbing should be enough
to tire them out.
Key Question:
Was it challenging? Is it something that you would like to do in the future?
Why? What muscle groups are used for wall climbing? Follow up the next
day with: What muscles are sore in your bodies?
Summary of Lesson:
In key questions
Data to be Collected on Student Learning and Evaluation Criteria
The participation level and students’ enthusiasm can be used to evaluate.
