Background Information
The
Western Red Lily is Saskatchewan’s floral emblem which
is native to CanadaFlowers
are generally bright red, with bases of petals more orange
than red and dotted with black, with single or multiple blooms. The
sepals and petals are both coloured. The Western Red Lily usually flowers at the end of June
or beginning of July. The fruit
is an elongated egg-shaped capsule in three sections. The leaves, linear to lanced-shaped, alternate on a stem
with upper leaves in a whorl at the base of the flower stalk. Common
habitats include moist meadows, edges of aspen groves, thickets,
and roadside ditches throughout much of Saskatchewan.
