Foundational
Objectives for Science (Middle Years)
The Western Red Lily
Teaching Module addresses several foundational objectives across
the Middle Years Science Curriculum. It is easily adaptable
to required curriculum content areas and can be embedded into instructional
planning and learning objectives specific to all grade levels. The
following is a list of the foundational objectives this module
considers.
Grade
6
1. Investigate
factors that influence an ecosystem.
2. Inquire
into the effects of change in an ecosystem.
3. Develop
a sense of responsibility for the preservation of the ecosphere.
4. Understand
the personal, moral, social, and cultural aspects of how we interact in
the ecosphere.
5. Understand
how technology both shapes society and is shaped by society.
Grade 7
1. Identify
the essential characteristics and processes of living organisms.
2. Appreciate
how organisms meet their basic needs.
3. Acquire
appreciation of the personal, moral, social and cultural aspects of understanding
life.
Grade 8
Plant Growth
1. Explore
the factors that influence plant growth.
2. Develop
an understanding that technology both shapes and is shaped by society.
Adaptation
and Succession
1. Recognize
how abiotic components of an ecosystem support and influence life.
2. Examine
how living things alter their environment.
Grade 9

Environment
1. Explore
the effects of human activity on the landscape of Saskatchewan.
