Admissions Process Overview for all Graduate StudentsGraduate students are registered in the College of Graduate Studies and Research (CGSR). Graduate students are students of the academic unit or department with their chosen program. This is called your academic home. For these reasons, the admission process for graduate students is a two-level process. To understand how this works, please visit Admissions Process. |
A. Requirements for Admission
1. M.Ed. or equivalent.
2. Two or more years of successful teaching experience or Equivalent.
3. High academic standing in undergraduate and graduate degrees.
4. Three favourable academic recommendations
5. Favourable recommendation from the Admissions Committee of the Department of Educational Administration.
6. Acceptance by the College of Graduate Studies and Research.
B. Procedure for Applying
1. Complete Application online
2. Pay application fee online
3. Send, or arrange to send, to the Department of Educational Administration:
a) An official transcript of marks from all universities you have attended other than the University of Saskatchewan. We obtain your Saskatchewan marks ourselves from the Student Information System.
b) An abbreviated resume of your work history and professional activities.
c) Official English language proficiency test score forms (if applicable).
d) A one to two page statement of why you want to pursue a doctoral program of studies in Educational Administration.
e) A completed research statement :
Describe your academic interests in 500-800 words, with consideration to the following:
- Explanation of the research problem you intend to investigate
- How intended doctoral research relates to master's research (if applicable) OR motivation for pursuing intended research (where does the research topic/question come from?)
- Why the Department of Educational Administration is suitable for pursuing your research interests (e.g. doctoral program and faculty research interests)
- Professional and/or academic aspirations - how will a doctorate in Educational Administration support the development of your career goals?

Evidence of scholarship and research capability - Student should submit written work (published or unpublished) from master's program e.g. journal article, thesis (or portion thereof)Department of Educational Administration

4. Three confidential letters of recommendation are to be submitted online by the referees. Referees are notified by email (when their name is entered in the online application) with instructions for completing and submitting their online letter. If a referee is unable to submit the online letter a pdf version for GSR 101: Confidential Letter of Recommendation should be used. The hard copy of this reference letter must be received by the department, in a sealed envelope with the referee's signature across the sealed back.
C. Deadline for Application for PhD.
The compulsory doctoral courses begin in September of each year. All application procedures should be completed well before this time. Normally, the following dates will apply: November 30, if you wish to be considered for a scholarship, All other students, January 31.
D. Program of Study
A student's program of study has to be approved by the Student's Advisory Committee.
E. Course Selection
Open electives may be graduate classes in Educational Administration, other Education departments, Colleges or universities.
F. Course Requirements
Student's with a Master's degree in Educational Administration must complete a minimum of 18 credit units at the 800 level. Students without this background in Educational Administration must complete a minimum of 24 credit units at the 800 level.

ERES 840.3 - Statistical Methods: Intermediate Level
The remaining courses shall enhance the student's substantive background in Educational Administration and support the research focus of the dissertation.
* Exceptions may be made if warranted by the student's background and/or research focus. Any exceptions require the approval of the Departmental members of the Advisory Committee.

Plus other approved electives.
Year 2
Year 2 will be devoted to the dissertation.
G. Other Requirements
1. The Advisory Committee may require additional courses to support the student's research focus.
2. A qualifying examination may be required during the first year
3. The student is required to take a Comprehensive Examination after all course work is completed.
H. Time Limit
The time limit for completing a program of studies is six years from the date of registration in the first course credited to the program.
I. Financial Support
Fully qualified Ph.D. applicants may receive scholarship support. Teaching fellowships are also available.
