Graduate Policies and Guidelines
Please review the College of Graduate Studies and Research web pages for general descriptions of policies and procedures relating to graduate programs.
Department Specific Policies for Admissions:
- A letter of intent, which uses the Template for Letter of Intent (pdf) should be submitted with your application. This may be emailed with your c.v. to edfdt.gradsecretary@usask.ca
- If you are an International Applicant and required to take a test for English language proficiency your test results must have the minimum score for each category.
Department Specific Policies for Progress on Thesis:
- In order to be accepted into the thesis option, an admission average of 80% or over is required and must be maintained in course work. Any exceptions will be referred to the Graduate Advisory Committee and its decision will be binding.
- A proposal hearing shall be scheduled within the next two terms upon completion of course work; that is, a proposal acceptable to the committee must be accomplished in that time frame.
- If the proposal is not acceptable to the committee, the candidate has a maximum of three months to re-submit the proposal. If it is still not acceptable, the student will be withdrawn from the thesis option and she/he may transfer to the course-based.
- Failure to submit a proposal will result in withdrawal from the thesis option. The student may transfer to a course-based program.
- Students shall submit an electronic report on their progress each term to their supervisor which will be forwarded to the Grad Chair with comments and posted on the student's electronic file. In addition to conferences attended or presentations made, students shall detail the progress on their thesis. Failure to submit a report or insufficient progress over two terms will result in withdrawal from the thesis option and a recommendation to the course-based.
- Students who choose to do their thesis at a distance must commit to at least one face-to-face supervisory committee meeting per year at their expense.
